NOMVULA, a debut album by ShabZi Madallion, has just dropped today.
Made-up of fourteen tracks that bring forth an experience that is filled with energy, honesty, and purpose… The name “Nomvula” is combined by combining two ïtems” which are “No-” and “-mvula”. The “No-” has been very useful in the nguni languages to help with clarifying the gender to be feminine. This is said to be traced back to the ancient Zulu god of the rain uNomkhubulwane.
I exhausted my creativity on this album, did something unique on this album, explored my different layers of artistry on this album, shared my pain and the pain of others on this album, enlisted some of my favourite artists, musicians & friends… told my truth on this album, showed my heart, exposed my alter ego, expressed my views and observations, elevated my godfidence, sneaked in my mother’s gems, had so much fun and lastly (but not least) closed some chapters on this album.
I hope this offering will mean something to you because in as much as it’s done in my mother’s name, the music is still for the people.
To my fans, you held me down in my silence, sent me all kinds of positive messages while I was on my “hiatus” and time of finishing the album. You made me realise my GIFT and because of you I’ll always intend on using it wisely and let God lead me. You showed me LOVE on and offline, in the streets, malls – all the hugs, selfies, words of affirmation… I let you into my diary and you embraced me without judgement – you are like family to me and I am forever
