Spotify has once again partnered with Cottonfest in 2023. On 4 February 2023 they brought the Johannesburg audience an important Experiential Campaign through a visual installation. In Black & White: Wall of Legends celebrating South African Hip Hop’s key role players. Through high-quality pixel LED screens, they brought the story of SA Hip Hop’s music, movements, cultures and subgenres to life, starting at the turn of the millennium. 

Joburg’s streets were plugged with people from various walks of life who came out in numbers to celebrate his legacy, filling Newtown with all tones of entertainment at the weekend. The Cotton Fest team took things a notch up this year to surprise the vim and vigorous crowd with the American star Akon, who took fans on a trip down memory lane with old classics.

Chart-topping artists Nasty C, Cassper Nyovest, A-Reece, Blxckie, DBN Gogo, DJ Maphorisa, Musa Keys, Sjava, Uncle Waffles, Young Stunna, K.O., Nadia Nakai and Elaine took to the main stage. The Bunker Stage brought out the best rising trap and R&B artists including Money Badoo, Lucas Raps, PatricKxxLee, Kash CPT, K Keed, Tyson Sybateli and Costa Titch, who brought out the surprise international Akon, who took fans on a trip down memory lane with old classics.. A slew of local artists also delivered stellar performances on all three stages, giving audiences the sovereignty to enthral themselves with the music of their choice.

Cotton Eaters, as they are called because of their affinity for fashion, pulled out all the stops to look the part.
