BONGO MAFFIN ALUMNI SPEEDY DELIVERS VISUALS TO AFRO-BALLAD ANG’PHELELANGA.
In September 2021, Speedy returned to music with his first solo album in 15 years with The Gift. A 22-track album which gave us summer hits including Khumbula featuring Nhlanhla Nciza and Nix Manyonyoba featuring Kid X.
This year the Bongo Maffin alumni continues the promotion of his album with the release of the current lead single, Ang’Phelelanga, featuring producer Murphy Cubric. The string-led, mid-tempo ballad is encapsulated by the title of the single, which is the isiZulu term of being incomplete. Therefore, the Monde Dube directed music video lends its premise from the lyrical content of the song.
Opening with Speedy and his love interest spending a day at the golf course. We follow the couple as they spend quality time ogether and as the Thathi ‘sgubu crooner marvels at finding the one. The visuals are devoid of embellishments as the anchor of the visuals is the beauty of love between Speedy and his love interest.
Ahead of its availability on YouTube, the music video enjoyed an exclusive television premiere on Trace Africa on Tuesday, 22 March 2022.
Ang’phelelanga’s music video leaves the viewers in awe of an understated love. A love that is so pure it does not need anything or anyone else between the couple in question.
