Universal Music Africa is continually at the forefront of unearthing new and unique talent, and nothing is as new and unique in music as singer-songwriter Nanette. Hailing from KZN, the Wits Bachelor of Arts Law student, affectionately dubbed as Mama Bird by her adoring followers, is ready to introduce her voice with her debut single, Dream Girl.
Discovered by talent manager and businessman Rich Mahogany. In the time that the two have been working together, Nanette has been dubbed Rich’s Protege. As such, the soulful singer has put the final touches on her debut album aptly titled Bad Weather, set to release later in the year.
In an effort to promote the upcoming release of her debut album, Nanette has released the first single from the R&B album, Dream Girl. The moody, mid-tempo, string-led single details the experience of dating as a millennial.
Speaking on the inspiration of the single, Nanette explains that, “Dream Girl I feel was definitely meant to be a painful song. I wanted to tell a story of what love is like when it’s ending. When your insecurities get the best of you. When you’re not getting the attention you think you deserve. All of that. I feel like dying love, even within ourselves, is something we can all relate to. And I’m so glad people will finally hear it and cherish it for themselves..”
