Nalu Release Visuals For ”LOCKDOWN BLUES” And Makes Her Debut As A DIRECTOR. [Watch]

Lockdown Blues is an ode to the waves of emotions that one experiences in isolation. The intent was to paint the
notion of healing in isolation.
“I didn’t want this song or video to feel heavy or triggering because it feels like everything related to the global
pandemic already is. I wanted to create something that made people feel safe, heard and validated. I wanted to let
people know that it’s okay to let loose, have fun, laugh at the little things and exhale. I truly hope that people feel
lighter when listening to Lockdown Blues and that they feel uplifted when watching the music video, realising that
there are many ways to heal and work through our emotions, and that’s okay…” Nalu
Nalu (22) is a Cape Town based artist, singer, song-writer, producer, dancer and now director from Cape Town, South
Africa. Nalu’s sound encompasses a collection of genres and influences. With the use of elements from jazz, R’nB,
soul, acoustic, classical, alternative and lofi sounds, she explores themes of womanhood, love, spirituality, growth
and desire. The Lockdown Blues video showcased Nalu’s personal methods of self-care and healing; from journalling
to yoga to playing guitar, creating music, dancing and singing.
With COVID-19 hitting the world Nalu felt pushed to tap into the parts of herself that she could easily be distracted
from, before lockdown.
“During a weird time of unease and uncertainty, I found peace within the conversations in my head, embracing the
unknown whilst acknowledging my fear of it. My reality had been distorted and transformed into a space where I
could unpack, befriend and get cozy with my demons. Sometimes it’s mindlessness, and other times, it’s
uncomfortable, beautiful growth…” Nalu
The visuals for Lockdown Blues is a real and raw depiction of how Nalu reconnected with her inner disconnect
during lockdown.
“I took the time to tap into my inner child by giving myself the space to be playful, youthful and light within the
wallowing heaviness surrounding me. That was how I coped with isolation. It was traumatic; and yet, I cradled myself
through the fall. The healing and spiritual growth that I experienced was unmatched and otherworldly. I’ve got so
much gratitude in my heart for this…” Nalu
The Lockdown Blues video is Nalu’s debut as a Director and was shot in Johannesburg with Director Of
Photographer, Max Mogale.
“Working with Max was such a blessing! Not only was this my first time shooting with him but this was also my
director debut. He helped me bring my creative direction to life in the most vibrant way. He was versatile and flexible
with his execution, which I love because one can never predict how any creation will come to life.
There is no set method; you simply have to trust your intuition, communicate effectively and follow through with your
ideas. The energy we created in our space made the process a whole lot easier for both of us. We shot the video
over two days and bounced the magic off of each other to create this world of Lockdown Blues. Give thanks!
I couldn’t be happier with the final cut…” Nalu
Lockdown Blues is the first single from Nalu’s forthcoming project which will be released later this year.
What can we expect next for Nalu? “You gotta expect the unexpected! The next few months are gonna be hella
exciting…” – Nalu
