Like the meme of the dog sitting in fire and saying “this is fine”, artists have had to contend with dire circumstances and figure themselves out. After a destabilized 2020, and a difficult battle with COVID, the Durban bred rapper, Xenlaii is back to better programming with the release of Wild Coast (EP).
The Wild Coast pack bridges the gap between Xenlaii’s debut EP, SURF : AM and the soon to be released SURF : PM. This collection of songs were created during the summer of 2020 just before South Africa experienced its first COVID-19 lockdown.
South Africans never expected what faced them in 2020, but by 2021 the overall sentiment is still bleak. While we all understand the dangers of the world we live in today, we still miss the spirit of groove, the promise of a better normal.
Sporting three tracks, Wild Coast EP “is a protest to the loss of the festive season and a cry to be outside again.” Featured on this project is Xenlaii’s long-time creative collaborator and fellow KZN native, SimmySimmyNya. Wild Coast is available on all streaming platforms NOW.
